It is Good Business to Invest in Children & Families (2002)

Along with others on the Smart Start Evaluation Assistance Team through Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center, Beth assisted with the development of this tool for local Smart Start Partnerships.

Orange County Work/Life Business Study – Orange County Partnership for Young Children (1/02-6/02)
We developed a study design and survey instruments to assess the family friendly practices and policies of Orange County businesses with 20 or more employees. Bordeaux Consulting, Inc. then gathered data, provided follow-up interviews, analyzed data and co-authored a report with Michele Rivest, OCPYC Executive Director. This is the first study of its kind that has been conducted in Orange County and consisted of numerous partnerships between local businesses, Chambers of Commerce and the Orange County Partnership for Young Children.


Strategic Planning – Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina (2/01 – 5/01)
Our consultant worked with the Diocesan Committee, Helping Churches Serve Children, to develop a short and long term strategic plan. We facilitated a two-day retreat focused on planning and committee development.


Family Support Program Planning – Harnett County Partnership for Children (2/01 – 6/01)
Our consultants worked with a planning team to develop a program service model, including evaluation and action steps, to address the identified family support needs of families with children between birth and age five in Harnett County.


Reconvene the Children with Special Needs Collaborative – Orange County Partnership for Young Children (9/00 – 6/01)
Bordeaux Consulting worked with a community task force to revisit a 1996 community assessment and planning effort to identify gaps in services for young children with special needs in Orange County. Our consultant served on the project design team and as researcher and report writer. Project report available.


Evaluation Services – Person County Partnership for Children (9/00 – 6/01)
We provided interim evaluation services including evaluation committee support, annual and quarterly reports to the state, local stakeholders and board committees. In addition our consultants provided an analysis of agency evaluation practices and made recommendations for implementing an integrated evaluation system.


Service System Assessment for Children With Special Needs – Wake County SmartStart (8/00 – 1/01)
We worked with an evaluation team to design and implement a comprehensive assessment of the strengths and needs of the service system for children with special needs in Wake County. Methodology included a three-pronged approach focusing on children, parents/families and service providers/systems. Our consultants lead the parent and family component of the study including survey research, focus groups, data analysis and a final report with recommendations.


Evaluation Services – Harnett County Partnership for Children (7/00 – 10/00)
Bordeaux Consulting developed direct service provider evaluation and monitoring systems, completed quarterly progress reports for Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and assisted with program coordination services.


Inclusion Assessment Project – Bladen County Partnership for Children (7/00 – 12/00)
Our consultants designed and implemented a comprehensive assessment of the strengths and needs of the service system for children with special needs in Bladen County with a focus on parent options for gaining services in typical child care settings. Data was gathered from local service providers, child care providers and families using community forums, survey research and an environmental scan. 
 


Strategic Planning – Lenoir/Greene Partnership for Children (1/00 – 6/00)
Our consultant facilitated a Board retreat and multiple committee meetings for the purpose of developing the Partnership Strategic Plan.


Child Care & Hispanic Family Support Benchmark Studies – Person County Partnership for Children (2/00 – 4/00)
We coordinated the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute/Smart Start Pilot Benchmark studies for Family Support (targeting Hispanic population) and Child Care. Our consultant assisted with data collection, methods design, survey interviewers’ training, survey follow-up, and presentation.


Outreach Project – Harnett County Partnership for Children (5/99 – 4/00)
Bordeaux Consulting, Inc. designed and implemented this research project to assess the family support service needs of families with young children in Harnett County. Methodology included surveying a random sample of parents of children under age three in addition to targeted parent groups from kindergarten classes, Head Start and early intervention programs. Additional data collection was conducted through focus groups with low income, Hispanic, and general populations. Project report available.


Child Care Workforce Study – Harnett County Partnership for Children (5/99 – 4/00)
Bordeaux Consulting, Inc. designed and implemented this research project to assess the child care workforce needs in Harnett County. Methodology included surveying every child care center director, teacher, and family child care home provider operating within the county obtaining an 86% response rate. Personalized visits were made to each center to assist in relationship building between Smart Start and local child care facilities. Project report available.


Smart Start Family Fest – Orange County Partnership for Children (4/99 – 6/00)
Our consultant developed an event plan, feasibility costing, and assisted with coordination of planning activities for the First Annual Smart Start Family Fest held in Orange County. The event was developed as an outreach effort to provide hands on learning experiences for young children while parents gained access to community resources and mini parenting workshops.

The Center for Congregational Health (2008, ongoing)

Beth serves as Educational Specialist and Church Consultant for the Center for Congregational Health. The Center offers services for local congregations, judicatory bodies, clergy and lay leaders in coaching, consulting, interim ministry, leadership development, spiritual formation and emotional intelligence. Visit the Center's website can be found at www.healthychurch.org.

                           

NC Episcopal Diocese (2007, ongoing) 

Beth has served the Diocesan Council, diocesan committees and local congregations in several ways (www.episdionc.org).

  • Using Appreciative Inquiry, leadership coaching and team development to support local congregations, lay leaders and church preschools or other church associated organizations through leadership transitions, planning processes and staff development.
  • Facilitating processes for listening and re-connecting during or following times of conflict
  • Co-designing and co-facilitating the Diocesan Council retreat in February 2008 along with the Rt. Rev. Bishop William Gregg to begin envisioning a "New Church" through the implementation of Phase II of the Mission Action Plan.
  • Facilitating weekend vestry retreats and mutual ministry reviews using one of several assessment/planning models: Benedictine, Appreciative Inquiry, Strategic Planning, or exploratory conversational processes. 
  • Congregational assessments using custom surveys, listening groups or an original Benedictine assessment tool looking at congregational stability, change and obedience.

Auger Communications (2008-ongoing)
Teach With Stories, Lay Educator Prenatal Outreach Program for Hispanics - a National Institutes of Health research study conducted in collaboration with University of North Carolina's Center for Maternal and Infant Health, involving an innovative media vehicle that targets Hispanic women. Beth served as a co-investigator and evaluator on the phase I research team and is currently helping develop the grant application for phase II. 

Martin Community College, Williamston NC
 (2007-08)
Beth worked with the college in conducting 19 focus groups, gathering and analyzing internal and external data and facilitating the planning team through a process of assessment and goal development to realize their mission of providing quality, affordable, and accessible learner-centered educational programs and services that are responsive to the needs of the communities they serve. PLM Families Together (2007-ongoing; volunteer)
Beth Bordeaux is a member of the Board of Directors (beginning 2009), the Planning and Evaluation Committee (2007-ongoing) and the Advocacy Committee (2009-ongoing) for PLM Families Together. The Planning & Evaluation Committee is currently developing internal data collection methods to match reporting expectations and strategic goals identified by the board of directors. The Advocacy Committee, formed in 2009, works with others to educate the community and local officials about the needs of homeless families. Prior to being a member of the Board of Directors, Beth also facilitated the board's annual visioning and planning retreat in August 2008. PLM Families Together is a Wake County North Carolina agency serving local homeless families with a continuum of care including, assessment, short-term transitional housing, transitional housing with intensive support services, permanent housing placement, and after-care case management. The Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Apex NC (2007-ongoing; volunteer)
Beth Bordeaux, as a member of The Prince of Peace, led a group discernment process in 2007 with a team of youth leaders and youth to rebuild the high school youth ministry. The process resulted in four priority areas: Communication, Curriculum, Consistency and Commitment. Eight committed leaders are now working together to  implement the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) program with a growing group of young people. Beth continues as a part of the ministry team for middle and high school youth.

Beth led a five-part Lenten series on group discernment for the congregation. She is also a part of the Communications Team and assists in the ongoing development and maintenance of the website (www.tpop.org).

           

Durham County Partnership for Children (2008; volunteer)
Beth Bordeaux served for one year on the Evaluation Committee for Durham's Partnership for Children. This Durham County North Carolina Smart Start organization works to make sure children reach school healthy and ready to succeed. More information can be found at

NC Episcopal Cursillo Secretariat (2007; volunteer)

Beth Bordeaux, GTM Consultant, facilitated the 2007 annual planning retreat. She also provided content and worked with a web designer to rebuild the NC Cursillo website (www.nccursillo.org).
